The Social Harm and Crime Research Group is based in the School for Policy Studies. It brings together researchers within the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences working on a wide range of questions around the intersections of crime and social harm. The Group is organised around three broad aims.
First, we aim to create a bridge between research, policy, and professional practice and facilitate inventive inter-disciplinary research which contributes to public understanding of major social issues, scrutinises the evidence base for policy and practice, and expands the policy options under debate.
Second, we aim to increase public understanding of harm-centred, policy-related research through our public engagement activities.
Third, we seek to encourage approaches to public policy across sectors that systematically takes into account the implications of decisions on social harm and aims to improve the accountability of policymakers for the harmful effects of policy and policy-related practice at all levels of policy-making.
